December Forum Speaker
|
It takes not only smarts, but cleverness as well, to be a Private Investigator. Our December Speaker exudes both and he is most certainly a Private Eye. I have thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him on the telephone, and have no doubt that he has more than enough material in his head to keep us entertained for much longer than the hour or so we have allotted him. All of our speakers do us a tremendous honor by coming to visit us, and I warn them ahead that we are a rambunctious lot who will ask a lot of challenging questions. With Guy, I have no doubt that he will give as good as he gets, so make his day if you like.
We must, by January 2003 change either the day or the location of the Forum. The Pyle Center will be changing their Friday hours from the present 9 P.M. closing to 5 P.M. We plan to move the Forum to Thursday in January, because a show of hands in November indicated that attendees were not happy about moving the location to Cactus and 25th Street as we had originally planned. If attendance drops sharply because of that change, we will either move to Cactus Road or find another place that we can afford. Many places have been recommended to us, but they all charge a lot of money. The Hall on Cactus is a separate building of an Episcopal Church that has great facilities, but some of our most vocal members are vigorously opposed to any such relationship for GPM. With others, they just don’t like the location. On the other hand, lots of people rarely go to the present location because of the distance from their homes, and they probably weren’t there for the show of hands.
The people at the Pyle Center have been treating us shabbily of late, the
ventilation is terrible, the rooms are small and we can’t serve any refreshments.
The Hall on Cactus is huge, we control the A/C and heat ourselves, there is
no shortage of seating, there are two rest rooms and a large kitchen at our
disposal. We can also serve whatever we like, including alcohol. Besides treating
with respect, they even gave me a key, so we can leave when we are good and
ready. Whatever the choice, we love our Forum and want it to serve as many of
us as possible, so we need your input.
