We are presenting the Calendar a bit differently this month.

The problem is good news.  We have more and more going on and the events need to be presented in a quick summary form with the usual supporting detail if it is necessary.

On page 8 is a summary that quickly tells you what is going on.  In many cases this is all you will need.  PTA (Phoenix Temperance Association  which is a happy hour group)  meets every Wednesday (well almost every Wednesday) and it is held at just a few establishments.  So a regular will only need to note that on the 16th it is at Sam’s Café.  If you have never been to PTA or you need to know the location where it is being held, this detail is provided.  You simply go to the entry for October 16th and note that Sam’s Café is in the Biltmore Fashion Park.   There is a name to call if you need still more information.

You will also note that at the end of each entry is a short caption that indicates its periodicity.  PTA is every Wednesday etc.  This is another way to make the Calendar convey as much information as possible.

Another point I want to comment on is that Mensa has no affiliation with any religious or political body.  As has been noted many times: Mensa has no opinions as an organization.  (Well, other than the opinion that you should pay your dues if you want to remain a member in good standing. )  So in principle, the question of renting space from a church for some Mensa functions should present no issue.  Yet, this issue has caused some discussion among the Executive Committee and some of the other members.  I have not seen the church facility we rented and cannot comment first hand.  We got a good price for the facility and time will tell whether it will meet our needs on a long term basis.  In any case, we have made no long term commitments.  I will have a better idea about the facilities when I see them.
