B-9 RVC Report

by Barbara Lytle, RVC Region 9

Anybody have a spare wheelbarrow? We are going to need one at the AG in order to take  home all the publication and website awards. SEVEN of our Region 9 groups have been nominated! Borderline got two website nominations, including one for The Owl.  GLAAM has been nominated in five categories for the newsletter and five more for website (including The Owl.) Inland Empire has two print nominations, and is up for The Owl. Orange County has five publication nominations, including The Owl. San Diego is up for 14 for newsletter, including the Owl, and one for website. Southern Nevada has a nomination for print and one for website. And Tucson has a website nomination! Am I impressed! We have the best editors around!

Speaking of editors, welcome Robert Williscroft to GLAAM and Sonja Struthers to Inland Empire. Give them a hand (both meanings)! They have major blue pencils to live up to.

While still on the subject of editors, the Bulletin helm has been taken over by Katie Hooten. Our former editor, Julie Boone, has taken a position with Children’s Medical Center in Dallas but we expect to see more of her as a member. Katie has an extensive communication career that includes communication manager for the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau and as editor of The Meeting Professional. Send her your articles at KatieH@AmericanMensa.org.

I hope to see you at the Leadership Development Workshops at the AG. While we know that we will be competing for your attention along with the other great AG programs, these workshops will include topics that will allow you to bring back information and to put it to work for your local group. You can learn how to get a local group website onto the AML server, learn about proctor training, local group PR, the ins and outs of bylaws, how to start a SIG, and about 20 more fascinating subjects.

By the way, did you know that you are welcome to attend all the AMC subcommittee meetings at the AG? There are about 20 of these scheduled. Come and hear for yourselves what really happens before we sit down at that big formal table.

Cheers
