WOW!!! Talk about an impressive showing at the AG – Region 9 brought home everything! Group of The Year Award (GOTYA) went to Borderline Mensa (Small Group) for the 4th year in a row, under LocSec Bob Cox. San Diego Mensa, under President Marge Bowles, came away with their 3rd GOTYA win in the Large Group category.
The Publications Recognition Program (PRP) acknowledged our region’s great
newsletters. The newsletter of Inland Empire Mensa, i.e., was
awarded The Owl (medium-sized group), while under the co-editorship of Don
Beatty and Linda Kaye. The newsletter of Orange County Mensa, The
Oracle, was awarded The Owl (large group) – for the second year in a row!
– with Linda Kapiloff as editor. The Oracle won the Entertainment
award for Original Content, also. GLAAM’s L.A. Mentary received four
newsletter awards (Seth Dollob, editor), and the San Diego Mensan
got one, also, with Mary Adams as editor. Borderline got a Special Mention
award for its web page.
San Diego received, once again, the Community Activity Program (CAP) award
in the education category for the work headed by Adina Sobo for the Science
Fair judging and scholarship program. Bunny Warsh of Inland Empire received
the very prestigious National Chairman’s Service Award.
GLAAM placed 11th in the CultureQuest contest while Carole Moran and Denise Flanagan of Southern Nevada and Dave Bowles of San Diego received honorable mentions. Tom Karnes, also of San Diego, won the Joke-Off. We done good!!
Pat Coontz from Inland Empire has been appointed Assistant RVC and will be very helpful in the communication department. She can help with all that e-group stuff that will keep us better informed and will be setting up a Leadership Development Workshop. Thank you so much.
A hearty welcome to Bill Taylor in Tucson who steps in as LocSec, and Doug Miller of Borderline Mensa is back as editor.
If you think the AG was great (and it was!!), wait till you try the Orange County Mensa RG, August 9-11. This thing is going to be a riot. I know you have all heard that Cookie Bakke can really put on a party. Come out and prove it to yourselves. Pat Coontz and I will be there for the RVC rap session and need input from you as to how you would like to see this organization function. This is the place to get answers to questions of a political nature. See you there!
Cheers!
