Did your local group get connected?

“Getting Connected” is the theme of this year’s National Testing Day publicity campaign.  On October 19 we’ll launch the largest publicity program of the year for testing.  Watch for promos on all media outlets.  Over half of our local groups are participating this year.  If your local group is one that missed out on this very valuable recruitment program, either Regional Proctor Advisor Pat Coontz or I can help you get an early start on next year with some proctor training.  Let us know where we can help you.  And give a big welcome to George Steele of Phoenix, our newest volunteer proctor.

The rumor is true; Mensans do have more fun.  I spotted a great picture of Sara Hamel of Inland Empire in The San Diego Union.  She was a participant in the National Scrabble Tournament.  My guess is that she was not the only Mensan in attendance.  Ask her about it at the Inland Empire RG in Palm Springs in November.

At this same RG over Veteran’s Day weekend, Tyger Gilbert, your National Communications Officer, will be presenting a Leadership Development Workshop on (can you guess?) newsletters and websites.  Put Sunday, November 10, at 1 p.m., on your calendar now.  Even if you are not registered for the RG, you may participate in this workshop at NO COST, which includes plenty of food and lots of answers to those questions you didn’t want to ask.  All aspects of producing your newsletter and website will be covered.  You might even ask your local group board to fund your transportation.  It can’t hurt to ask.

Did you know that GLAAM’s editor, Dr. Robert Williscroft, hosts a radio talk show in Los Angeles on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. and Mondays at 1:30 a.m. on KLAS.FM?  Our folks are so talented!

Speaking of talented, are you a writer, or even an avid reader?  BestOfM is a new facility for the submission and transmission of original writing—articles, essays, short stories poetry, puzzles, etc.  It is open to all Mensa members and submissions will be released biweekly.  My old friend, Raymond Anderson, of Johannesburg, South Africa, has put this together.  He asks that all submissions be original, though prior publication in other Mensa media is fine.  This is not a discussion group, but well-thought-out “Letters to the Editor”-type format will be accepted.  Contact him at raymonda@iafrica.com.
