I’m officially declaring October as Volunteer Month here in GPM! Why, you ask?
Well, for two reasons:
First, and most important, we are having a huge shindig this month to say THANK
YOU to the AG volunteers. Leigh has planned an incredible menu that includes
such highlights as peel ‘n’ eat shrimp, sangria (extra points awarded for creative
use of surplus wine!), Glenn’s famous homemade bread and Lin’s killer triple
chocolate cake! Please ignore the drool stains here in my column. Check out
her article on page 7 for more details.
Second, your tireless ExCom has finally worked through its backlog of issues
and is now focusing on YOU. Yes, Uncle Mensa wants YOU! We’re looking to fill
all of our open group positions, as well as find assistants for all of the filled
positions. This will allow people to “test drive” any position within the chapter
to find out if it is something they like, as well as help out the person currently
in charge of that area. In addition, over the course of this month, I will
be putting together descriptions of what each position typically does and posting
that on our website (www.phoenix.us.mensa.org), so that you can get an idea
of what’s involved, and how much time it usually takes up per month.
Desperately Seeking Susan (aka Vacancies)
Historian
Marketing Communications
Mensaphone Voicemail
Scholarship Chair
Sojourn Chair
West Valley Area Coordinator
Young Ms Char
I Want To See Other People (aka Filled, but Seeking Replacement)
Circulation Manager
PTA Host
Test Proctor(s)
As you can see, we’re actually not that bad off, but the more people that get
involved, not only can we do more (think parties and fund-raising for party
fundage!), but we can do more AND ask less of each individual at the same time!
So I’ll be acting as our Volunteer Coordinator. If you are interested in any
position, in any capacity, just give me a call at (480) 947-2761, or email me
at konekko@yahoo.com, and I will be happy
to tell you all about the position and get you hooked up with the person currently
doing it (if we have one.)
